Why Choose a doctor for your Cosmetic Procedures?

There are some very experienced people out there who have been performing minor cosmetic procedures for many years, but just how medically qualified are they for this? This is an area that is currently unregulated and anyone can set themselves up as a practitioner, with no requirement for knowledge, training or previous experience. You wouldn’t want to get surgery from someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, and the same applies to cosmetic treatments. As with any medical procedure, the results and safety of these treatments will depend on the skill and knowledge of the person who performs them.

As a previous GP, and current doctor for the NHS for over 20 years I have a wealth of experience of looking after patients and their health, and am very able to deal with any complications or side effects that may arise from a treatment. All cosmetic procedures carry some level of risk. When weighing up whether to have a treatment and who to consult for it, you should factor in any additional costs for aftercare and potentially correcting anything that goes wrong.

At my graduation ceremony when I qualified as a doctor, I had to take the ‘Hippocratic Oath’ which states that I will “do no harm”. This means that I will always put your safety and wellbeing first. Therefore if I believe that you are having treatment for the wrong reasons, I wont perform that treatment and instead go through other potential routes and options. One reason you may be refused treatment is if your request is not appropriate for your specific facial features. We do not want to produce ‘Love Island’ or ‘Towie’ results.
