Why is skin care important?

Good skin care is important for the following reasons:

  • It helps your skin stay in good condition. This will keep your skin glowing, help prevent acne, treat wrinkles and keep it looking its best.

  • Your skin will look more youthful. As you age, your skin's cells are replaced more slowly, making it look duller and less radiant. Good skin care will help remove dead skin cells which your body will replace with newer, more youthful cells.

  • Prevention is better than correction. It is easier (and less costly) to prevent skin problems than to rectify them in the future.

  • Give your self-confidence a boost. When your skin looks better, you feel better about yourself and have more self-confidence.

What are good skin care methods?

Cleanser: Wash your face gently with a good cleanser. If you have dry skin, choose a cleanser that doesn't contain alcohol; if you have oily skin, use an oil-free cleanser. Afterwards, rinse with warm water.

Toner: Use toner after washing you face - it helps to smooth and calm your skin whilst restoring nutrients.

Moisturiser: Moisturiser should be used every time you wash your face. If you have oily skin, choose an oil-free or gel product.

Sunscreen: Even if your moisturiser contains sunscreen, you should still use a separate sunscreen every day - even if it's cloudy. Choose one that has an SPF of at least 30.

Exfoliator: Exfoliators should only be used once or twice a week, after using a cleanser, but before moisturiser.

Serum: A serum can help with specific issues such as redness.

What are the benefits of quality skin care products?

Quality ingredients: Quality ingredients can improve your skin - in the same way that healthy foods benefit your body.

Protection from environmental damage: such as pollution.

Help fight the effects of ageing: such as wrinkles and sunspots.

Results for the money: Quality products may cost more, but they are worth the money as they will be more effective.

Higher Standards: Quality skin care products are more refined, so contain fewer impurities and bacteria.

Why should you avoid poor quality skin care products?

You may experience negative effects from poor quality products, eg:

Ineffective results

Allergic reactions, such as rashes

Worsening problems such as clogged pores, which may cause spots or blackheads

Unfortunately, a huge amount of poor quality skincare products contain harmful ingredients, such as parabens, aluminium and phthalates. These have a range of negative effects, such as hormone imbalances and even links to cancer.
