Botulinum Toxin injections (e.g. Botox®, Bocouture®, Azzulure®) are the most popular form of non-surgical treatments for treating lines and wrinkles. A very small amount of botulinum toxin is injected into the muscle causing the wrinkle. The treatment is given using the smallest needle available to give the most comfortable experience. The toxin stops the muscle temporarily from receiving the impulse from the nerve and hence, the muscle relaxes. The overlying skin also relaxes and appears smoother as a result, whilst the untreated muscles move as usual. This allows for a natural appearance and you will still retain facial expression.

Botulinum Toxin will start to work immediately but the results will take around 5-14 days to take effect. The effect will last for approximately 3-4 months, although this varies between individuals and a time period is not guaranteed. Gradually, normal muscle use resolves, and the wrinkles or lines will start to return after this time. It is recommended that you return when you start to see this happening again if you wish for the result to be maintained.

The treatment takes around 20-30 minutes. You will be able to return to work immediately if you wish, but may have mild redness at the injection sites for up to an hour after the treatment.
